Five, and later seven, Islamic Berber Mozabite city-states existed in large Sahara-Desert oases (situated in present-day Algeria), which lasted from approximately 1000 A.D, until 1882 A.D.
SIGRID FAATH -- Ph.D. -- Professor at University of Hamburg
Dear Dr. Kolkey,
your reasoning and thesis seems perfectly "right". I guess we could find
data to prove this and the study of city-states can - I would underline that
too - help to provide more insight into the subject of "war-going"/"war-ending" and the reasons behind.
Unfortunately I lack in information, facts concerning the Mzab City-State
Wars that could be of help to you. I know the names of two persons yet with
an extraordinary insight (they had both the possibility to study documents
in private libraries in the Mzab). One is Abdel-Hakim Ourghi, he wrote is dissertation on an Ibadite subject and had access to private documents in the Mzab. He is actually lecturing at the university of Freiburg in southern Germany. You might refer to me giving you the address. His e-mail address is hakim.ourghi@orient.uni-freiburg.de
He might also know how to contact an Ibadite scholar who wrote a remarkably
thesis on the Ibadite communities in North Africa in 1971 at the Sorbonne, I
guess you know him, it is Brahim Fekhar Ben Moussa. But I do not know where
to contact him. May be Hakim Ourghi has met him during his recent research
and might help you. He knows a lot about the "strifes" of the city-states.
I am sorry that I cannot be of further help. But be sure, I am interested in
your thesis and your findings. So do let me know, how you get on; if I come
across something that might help you on I will inform you.....
Kindest regards,
Sigrid Faath
