I am sorry that I did not immediately answer your e-mail.
Actually, i was overwhelmed by it the first time I read it.  I
suppose that your argument might hold up.  Remember in his
Memoirs, written in the 1850s or thereabout, Lord Brougham
speculated that if in 1789, at the time of the Regency Crisis,
Pitt had gone out of office and Fox come in, Fox would have
been an opponent of the French Revolution and Pitt would have
supported the French Revolution!! I suppose that most of 18th
and 19th century British political history could support your
thesis.
