Initially, Rome was merely one of a number of about twenty-or-so Latin city-states, which were gradually conquered by the growing Roman Republic. Some of the most prominent Latin city-states include the nearby Tibur and Praeneste. Roman Republic wars themselves will be treated in a separate section: "Ancient Roman Republic Wars."
